Meglio ricchi…

 “Meglio ricchi e felici, che poveri e tristi” …diceva il filosofo Catalano nella trasmissione “Quelli della Notte” di alcuni anni fa…
In realtà non è detto: tra Felicità e Denaro non è possibile individuare una significativa correlazione statistica, come ben spiegato in un articolo di qualche anno fa del New York Times:

Economists measure consumer confidence on the assumption that the resulting figure says something about progress and public welfare. The gross domestic product, or G.D.P., is routinely used as shorthand for the well-being of a nation.

But the small Himalayan kingdom of Bhutan has been trying out a different idea.

In 1972, concerned about the problems afflicting other developing countries that focused only on economic growth, Bhutan’s newly crowned leader, King Jigme Singye Wangchuck, decided to make his nation’s priority not its G.D.P. but its G.N.H., or gross national happiness.

Esistono quindi indicatori di benessere, il FIL (Felicità Interna Lorda - GNH: Gross National Happiness), piuttosto che il GPI (Genuine Progress Indicator), alternativi al PIL (Prodotto Interno Lordo - GDP: Gross Domestic Product).
Tali indicatori sono basati su valori morali e di benessere e non soltanto su valori economici.
Il concetto di base è che spendere soldi non significa automaticamente aumentare il benessere e che, a determinare il benessere, concorrono anche molti fattori fuori mercato come il volontariato, i beni comuni, la qualità del tempo libero e, negativamente, il crimine, l’inquinamento, la fragilità delle famiglie…
E’ interessante il confronto nel tempo: mentre il PIL, nel corso degli anni, ha continuato a crescere, il benessere è ormai fermo raggiungendo una sostanziale stabilità a partire dagli anni ‘70.
